As a technical architect, it’s my job to design and oversee delivery of our customer solutions, many of which are cloud-based. Varying from short pieces of pre-sales and consultancy work to longer delivery projects, I get a real buzz from my job, which enables me to get to grips with genuinely cutting-edge technologies.
I started my career as a software tester, before moving into IT infrastructure support work and later technical consultancy and delivery. Given the variety of our customers’ requirements, my 15 years’ hands-on experience with hardware and software is hugely valuable. I need to know my Windows from my Linux, and understand how to design and configure virtual machines, firewalls, networks and even physical servers.
There’s a culture of sharing expertise at MDS and the technical architects and technical consultants hold regular ‘show and tell’ sessions. These are a great way to broaden our knowledge and ensure we’re all up to speed on how best to take advantage of the amazing possibilities of today’s technology.
